Quinault Strawberry Plants by the Box (1500)

Quinault Strawberry Plants by the Box (1500)

Nature's Heart-Shaped Gems

(Fragaria x ananassa 'Quinault') represents a prominent cultivar within the Fragaria genus, valued for its distinctive attributes, adaptability, and culinary versatility.

Quinault Strawberry plants are herbaceous perennials, characterized by a compact growth habit, typically attaining a height of 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) with a matching spread. The foliage is medium green and compound, featuring three serrated leaflets. These leaves form a dense rosette at the base of the plant.

Quinault strawberries yield medium-sized, heart-shaped fruits renowned for their vibrant red hue and glossy exterior. Their flavor profile is celebrated for its sweet, mildly tangy notes, rendering them suitable for fresh consumption and culinary applications.

Understanding the preferred growing conditions of the Quinault Strawberry is pivotal to successful cultivation. These strawberries thrive in full sun but exhibit tolerance for partial shade. Optimal fruit production occurs when they receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Soil quality is a critical consideration. Well-draining, fertile soil with a pH range of slightly acidic to neutral (around 6.0-6.5) is favored. Adequate soil preparation enhances overall plant health and robust fruit production. Consistent moisture levels are imperative; therefore, regular and even watering is essential to maintain an appropriate soil moisture balance.

The harvesting of Quinault Strawberries is a delicate process. Ripe strawberries should exhibit a uniform, vivid red color, emit an enticing aroma, and detach effortlessly from the stem with a gentle tug. Employing proper harvesting techniques preserves fruit quality and flavor.

The Quinault Strawberry, with its unique characteristics and culinary adaptability, exemplifies the synergy of botanical elegance and culinary delight. Cultivating this esteemed variety promises a sensory and gastronomic experience, appealing to both seasoned horticulturists and individuals embarking on their gardening journey.

Strawberries are extremely adaptable and are grown in every state in the U.S. Plants generally grow 6-8" tall and 12" across, are shallow-rooted, and benefit from mulch such as straw, pine needles, or plastic. Prefer a soil rich in all the basic nutrients with a pH of 6 to 6.5. Susceptible to root rot and must be planted in well-drained soil, with crown set at soil level. Yield under the best of conditions is about one basket per plant per season.

June Bearers generally produce a single large crop in spring to early summer (as early as March in warmer regions) and are prolific producers for 3 to 4 weeks. Pick the blossoms off June bearers the first year to boost production the second year.

Everbearers are not as prolific as June bearers but are especially suitable for growers who wish to harvest a constant supply of berries throughout the summer. Plant some of both to have a large harvest to preserve, and plenty to eat all summer!
