Dutch White Clover - Nitrocoated Seed (lb)

Good for Shady Areas

Trifolium repens – Perennial legume cover crop

Our premium white clover seeds feature Dutch White Clover (Trifolium repens), a hardy, low-growing perennial legume cover crop valued across the United States for its adaptability and soil-enhancing benefits. Also known as White Dutch or Dutch clover, this resilient variety thrives in full sun to partial shade and is ideal for lawns, pathways, orchards, vineyards, and erosion-prone areas.

Key Features:

  • Fixes nitrogen naturally, enriching soil up to 165 lbs per acre without synthetic fertilizers
  • Grows up to 8" tall with dense foliage that suppresses weeds and improves soil structure
  • Moderately deep root system offers drought tolerance and enhances winter hardiness
  • Sensitive to synthetic nitrogen, making it a great fit for natural or low-input growing systems
  • Performs well when planted in early spring or early fall in USDA zones 3–10

Planting Details:

  • Seeding Rate: 0.5–1 lb per 1,000 sq ft (8–10 lbs per acre)
  • Planting Depth: 0.25–0.5"
  • Germination: 5–10 days
  • No inoculant needed – the seed is Nitrocoated® for enhanced establishment

Benefits & Uses:

Dutch white clover complements other cover crops such as red clovers, providing a balanced rotation for soil health. Its natural nitrogen fixation supports healthy turf and garden systems without relying on synthetic inputs. Ideal for improving soil fertility and erosion control in gardens and fields, as well as creating durable, low-maintenance ground cover in lawns and orchards.

Important Note:

This seed is conventionally grown, non-GMO, and untreated (no fungicides or insecticide treatments). The Nitrocoated® seed coating includes powdered limestone, a binder, and a peat-based inoculant. While suitable for many sustainable growing systems, this product is not certified organic and should not be used where organic certification is required.

All the staff at grow organic were outstanding! What a treasure! They helped with confirming they had what I needed, loaded the truck, helped me figure my taxation and even offered advice in the future for consulting about organic growing!

Easy to sow

Germinates quickly, within a week. Great coverage and minimal to no weeds. Hard to grow grass in desert climate and this did a phenomenal job of filling in gaps.
