Description

Trifolium hirtum Annual cool season legume cover crop.

Rose Clover is a resilient annual legume cover crop that thrives in poor, rocky soils with as little as 10 inches of rainfall. Known for its adaptability, it is an excellent choice for rangelands, vineyards, and wildlife plantings. This early-maturing clover establishes quickly, germinating in just 5–10 days, and produces protein-rich forage alongside dusty rose blooms that attract bees and beneficial insects. At maturity, plants reach about 18 inches tall and can contribute nitrogen-rich plant material when effectively nodulated. Cold-hardy to 10°F and well-suited for early to mid-fall planting, Rose Clover performs reliably in marginal conditions where other legumes often fail. While it is a valuable pioneer species, it will gradually yield to more vigorous clovers as soil quality improves.

  • Application Rate: 0.25"-0.5 deep at .25-1 lb/1000 sq ft or 15-25 lb/acre
  • Inoculant: No additional inoculant is needed. The legume seed is already coated with the appropriate Rhizobium bacteria to support nodulation and nitrogen fixation.
  • Germination: 5–10 Days
  • Plant Height: 18"
  • Uses: Vineyards, wildlife plantings, rangelands; provides palatable, high-protein forage; attracts bees and beneficial insects
  • Facts to Note: Nitrogen contribution varies with nodulation, stand growth, soil conditions, and management. Cold-hardy to 10°F. Best planted in early to mid-fall.

Made to order. Minimum order quantity is 50 pounds.

Note for certified organic growers: Nitrocoated seed is conventionally grown, non-GMO seed with no fungicide or insecticide seed treatment applied before coating. The coating contains certified organic powdered limestone, an organically approved binder, and an OMRI-approved peat-based inoculant, applied through an OMRI-approved process on a dedicated Nitrocoated-seed treatment line.
