Organic lemon verbena
Lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora) is a certified-organic potted herb grown for narrow green leaves with a clean, intense lemon fragrance. Fresh or dried foliage can be used to scent teas, syrups, desserts, and other culinary preparations. The plant is a woody perennial in warm climates and may be grown seasonally or overwintered under protection elsewhere.
- Plant form: One certified-organic live herb in a 1-gallon pot
- USDA zones: 8–11
- Light: Full sun
- Habit: Upright, branching shrub that can reach several feet where winters are mild
- Harvest: Clip healthy leaves and tender shoot tips as needed during active growth
- Pollination: A pollinizer partner is not needed when the plant is grown for foliage
Planting and care
Transplant into well-drained soil after severe frost risk has passed, keeping the root ball level with the surrounding grade. Water consistently while new roots establish, then irrigate deeply without leaving the crown waterlogged. Pinching or light harvesting encourages branching. Larger harvests are best taken before cold weather, allowing enough green growth to remain for plant recovery.
Lemon verbena may drop leaves and appear dormant when temperatures or day length fall. Near the cold edge of its range, use a sheltered site and protect the root zone. In colder climates, grow it in a roomy container that can be moved to a bright, frost-free location. A potted plant needs an open drainage hole and more frequent moisture checks during warm weather.
Using and comparing herbs
Harvest after foliage dries from irrigation or dew, rinse as appropriate, and use clean tools. Dry leaves away from direct sun if you want to preserve their aroma. Browse other perennial herbs or compare seasonal choices in the vegetable and herb plant collection.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Good size plant, starting to branch. Healthy plant. Would have liked it to be more bushy. I expect it will branch out more over time, over the summer.
