Persian Clover - Nitrocoated Seed (lb)
Great for Weed Competition and Erosion Control
Trifolium resupinatum Annual cool-season legume cover crop.
Persian Clover is an annual clover valued for its dense growth, excellent weed suppression, and its ability to contribute nitrogen-rich growth when effectively nodulated. Its fragrant purplish-pink flowers bloom continuously longer than any other clover, providing extended forage for pollinators while enriching the soil. Establishing quickly in just 5–10 days, it grows up to 2 feet tall and tolerates mowing, reseeding readily for long-term benefits. Adaptable to a wide range of soils, it thrives with as little as 8–10 inches of annual rainfall and can withstand temperatures down to 15°F. Best sown in fall, Persian Clover is effective for erosion control, forage, and soil fertility improvement. Nitrocoated seed requires no inoculant and performs best with consistent moisture.
- Application Rate: 6-10 lb/acre, 1/4-1 lb/1000 sq ft.
- Inoculant: No additional inoculant is needed. The legume seed is already coated with the appropriate Rhizobium bacteria to support nodulation and nitrogen fixation.
- Germination: 5–10 Days
- Plant Height: 2'
- Uses: Forage crop, nitrogen fixing, erosion control, weed suppression, and pollinator support
- Facts to Note: Tolerates a wide range of soils, withstands mowing, reseeds readily, and continues to grow with adequate moisture. Hardy to 15°F and requires only 8–10" of rainfall annually.
Made to order. Minimum order quantity is 50 pounds.
Note for certified organic growers: Nitrocoated seed is conventionally grown, non-GMO seed with no fungicide or insecticide seed treatment applied before coating. The coating contains certified organic powdered limestone, an organically approved binder, and an OMRI-approved peat-based inoculant, applied through an OMRI-approved process on a dedicated Nitrocoated-seed treatment line.

This Persian clover grew marvelously in my back yard last summer, despite my free-ranging chickens. (I didn't keep them away from it, even right after I'd scattered the seed.) The chickens loved it, the bees (both honey and native) loved it, and various other beneficials loved it, too. It spread well and did a darned good job out-competing most of the weeds that're all the will grow here (5b, along the arid Front Range of Colorado) if you don't water. (Granted, it was somewhat wetter last May than normal when I spread the seed, but it survived the summer regardless.) It even handled being mowed well (mowed once to get the other weeds under control).
I had to be very careful where I stepped when it was blooming. :) I will definitely be buying more when it is back in stock.
