Pest Wizard Olive Fruit Fly Lure 2-Pack
Keep pests out of your olives
Use with yellow sticky traps PIT855. Highly effective, 60-day lure. Olive fruit fly larvae attack the fruit of the olive tree, causing premature fruit drop or pulp destruction.
Performance: We highly recommend that you use the PIT855 Pest Wizard brand of yellow sticky traps. The special color of these particular un-baited yellow cards attract 2 to 6 times more flies than other brands (2 USDA and 1 Texas A&M studies). The lure itself serves to narrow attraction to both male and female adults of the species. The main cost component of the lure is the pheromone that is more costly to formulate than many other lures.
Dacus oleae can live for a long time. Females begin piercing fruit skin to deposit eggs in June. Olive juice from the pierced olive repels other females for about 5 days. A female may lay up to 400 eggs which take 30 to 40 days to hatch. All but the last generation of larvae (maggots) remain inside the fruit where they pupate. The last generation of larvae pupate in soil. There are 2 to 5 generations per season.
