Organic German Extra Hardy Garlic (lb)
Certified Organic Porcelain Hardneck Garlic
Organic German Extra Hardy seed garlic is a Central European-style Porcelain maintained in North America for dependable cold-winter growth. It is often discussed alongside German White and German Hardy, and some seed lines may share ancestry, but this stock is sold under the Extra Hardy name. Certified organic bulbs offer large cloves, strong flavor, edible scapes, and broad Zone 3–8 guidance.
Mix & match savings. This item is eligible for the Garlic Mix & Match discount. Combine eligible seed garlic and shallots to save 10% at 3 pounds, 15% at 10 pounds, or 20% at 30 pounds. The discount is applied automatically in the cart.
German Extra Hardy is the kind of garlic that makes a northern grower look forward to spring. It returns from winter with strong upright growth and finishes with weighty white bulbs containing just 4–7 generously sized cloves. A pound plants quickly, the cured cloves are a pleasure to peel, and the curled scapes add a fresh bonus for the kitchen. Choose it for a satisfying cold-climate crop with unmistakable hardneck character.
The cloves have strong, spicy, classic garlic flavor. Raw preparations such as pesto, salsa, aioli, and dressings show its heat most clearly; roasting or simmering develops a sweeter and rounder profile for soups, braises, potatoes, and sauces. Large cloves are well suited to whole-clove roasting and reduce preparation time when a recipe calls for generous quantities of garlic.
When growing German Extra Hardy, choose a sunny bed where winter cold can do its work and water drains away after snowmelt. Set the cloves in fall with time to establish roots, then follow local practice for winter mulch. In spring, keep the row weed-free and evenly watered, and harvest the scapes while tender. Start checking bulbs when the lower leaves brown around mid-summer, then cure the harvest in a dry, shaded, airy place.

Limited Seed Garlic Guarantee (When Planted by November 15th)
Claim Deadline is 45 Days from Purchase or Delivery. (Claims placed after December 31st will be denied.)
What We Guarantee
Our only guarantee is that the seed garlic we sell will germinate, provided you follow the steps listed in our Garlic Planting & Growing Guide. This guarantee is only available to customers who purchase their seed garlic directly from us.
What We Cannot Guarantee
We cannot guarantee that your garlic will remain alive & healthy, or sizes up properly, as there are too many variables beyond our control to be able to do so (i.e. soil preparation, fertilization, weed and pest control, temperature control, irrigation, etc).
How to Request a Credit
If you encounter a significant lack of germination of your garlic (over 50%), please contact us within 45 days of delivery. If we determine that your garlic had a significant lack of germination, we will issue you a credit (not a refund) for the purchase price of your garlic (excluding shipping).* This 45-day time frame is meant to allow you up to 2 weeks to plant your garlic, and up to 4 weeks to check for signs of growth.
(*) We reserve the right to not issue credit for items already replaced. We also reserve the right to require photographic evidence of the lack of germination of your garlic.

Well, I planted and watered and hope for the best next season!
Garlic was in good shape no dried out pieces. So now up to the weather with help
from my hose! We had a very wet winter and dry summer, with to warm of conditions?
so hopefully next season will be better.
My order was prompt and just what I expected.
My community gardeners and I are trying this for the first time. We’ve always had great results with our Peaceful Valley garlic and, by the look of the seed garlic that arrived, are excited to see it produce wonderfully flavorful garlic next summer. It arrived timely and with beautiful large cloves. Can’t wait to taste!
