Daikon Radish Seeds (Organic)

Daikon Radish Seeds (Organic)

Crisp roots, mild heat.

Daikon Radish is a versatile and fast-growing root vegetable known for its long, white roots and crisp, mild flavor. Each root grows up to 8-14 inches long, with a smooth skin and tender flesh that is perfect for fresh eating, pickling, or adding to soups and stir-fries. Thriving in full sun and loose, well-draining soil, Daikon Radish matures in about 50-70 days, making it an excellent choice for quick and rewarding harvests. This cool-season crop performs best in spring or fall gardens, tolerating light frosts and improving in flavor with cooler temperatures. The lush green tops are also edible, adding a peppery kick to salads or sautéed dishes. Daikon Radish is highly productive and easy to grow, making it suitable for gardeners of all experience levels. Its mild heat and crisp texture make it a favorite for Asian cuisine and creative cooking. Whether you’re growing it for fresh use or long-term storage, Daikon Radish is a delicious and adaptable addition to your vegetable garden.

Radish - Daikon - Raphanus sativus

Hardy Annual Heirloom. The big roots of the Daikon radish make it a clod-busting cover crop, but it’s also a tasty table radish with a mild flavor. The flowers are popular with chefs as edible garnishes on soups and salads. These look more like white carrots than radishes, growing up to 16" long. Use these fresh in salads or cook them in soups and stews.

Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Radishes prefer well-drained soil with plenty of added organic matter. They have low nutrient requirements; especially avoid excess nitrogen to promote good root development. Preferred soil pH is 6.0-7.0.

Planting & Growing: Cool weather is needed for best development. Sow seed directly in fall or early spring. Radishes make good, living row markers for slower germinating crops like carrots.

Harvesting & Storage: Daikon radishes may be brittle, so use care when digging up with a fork or pulling. Cut tops 2" above crowns, wash, and refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

Bolts quickly at 7000ft

I LOVE daikon, especially chopped up in morning eggs. So when I saw these seeds, I was so excited to try growing them here in Arizona- 35 degrees North latitude at 7000ft. I planted a row in my organic garden every week during April and May. A couple rows fell victim to a spring Flea beatle outbreak, but the rest of the daikon weathered the storm. Late June hit and every last one of them bolted. The leaves were small, the flowers were few and the roots were practically non existant, too small to be eaten. I had saved some seeds and planted the last of them during our monsoon season (July through Sept). Even with the rains, no luck. They bolted. I won't try these again, as they don't seem to be adapted to our high and dry climate.

Huge

My radishes were huge, up to 22". Some of them were pithy and others were solid and sweet. I enjoyed the adventure of growing these and was pleased with the germination rate.
