Description

Certified-organic Patriot is an early Northern Highbush blueberry suited to cold-winter gardens and smaller planting spaces. The vigorous but comparatively compact bush has an open, moderately upright structure and bears very large, slightly flattened, medium-blue berries. Their aromatic, acidic blueberry flavor becomes more balanced after the fruit has fully colored, making patient picking especially important with this cultivar.

  • Plant form: One certified-organic potted blueberry plant
  • USDA zones: 3–7
  • Chill requirement: Approximately 1,000 or more hours for this potted product specification
  • Season: Early harvest with a relatively concentrated ripening period
  • Mature habit: Open, vigorous, moderately erect, and generally under 4 feet
  • Fruit: Very large, medium blue, somewhat soft, tart, and aromatic
  • Soil tolerance: More adaptable to heavier, wetter ground than many highbush cultivars, but not standing water

Patriot is normally self-fruitful, yet pollen from a second Northern Highbush cultivar can support better set and berry size. Certified-organic Hannah’s Choice is another early, high-chill selection that shares Zones 4–7. Check actual blossom overlap locally because Hannah’s Choice can flower especially early.

Prepare a sunny, acidic bed and preserve good drainage even if the native soil is moisture retentive. Water deeply through dry periods, mulch the broad shallow root zone, and leave the crown exposed. Resist harvesting at the first sign of blue; allow flavor to develop on the bush. Patriot can be sensitive to bacterial blight in some regions, so avoid forcing tender late growth, keep canes separated for airflow, sanitize pruning tools, and remove affected wood according to local extension advice. Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
