Organic Blueberry Toro (Ea)

Certified-organic Toro is a midseason Northern Highbush blueberry distinguished by very large, firm berries that ripen in concentrated clusters. The stocky, spreading bush grows with moderate vigor rather than racing upward, and the light-blue fruit combines good flavor with a small picking scar. Toro can take longer than more vigorous cultivars to reach full production, rewarding careful establishment and patient canopy development.

Toro is capable of setting fruit alone, but a different Northern Highbush cultivar can improve pollen transfer. Drainage is the central siting issue for Toro. This cultivar is notably susceptible to root rot and performs poorly in heavy, wet ground, so use a raised bed or roomy container when native soil remains saturated. Full sun, pH 4.5–5.5, and a coarse organic mulch support healthy roots without burying the crown. Water thoroughly, then allow excess moisture to escape rather than keeping the mix constantly soaked.
