Curly Roja Kale Seeds (Organic)
Curly Roja Kale - Ruffled Leaf Edges with Deep Purple Stems
Curly Roja Kale is an eye-catching and productive variety that brings both ornamental beauty and edible value to your garden. Its deeply ruffled leaves and striking purple stems create a vibrant contrast in beds or borders, while providing a steady harvest of nutritious greens. This variety thrives in cooler weather, and its flavor improves as temperatures drop—cold weather naturally sweetens the leaves, making them more tender and flavorful. Excellent for fresh salads, steaming, stir-fries, or adding to soups, Curly Roja Kale is well-suited for home gardeners and small farms alike. It grows reliably in partial sun and adapts to a range of soil conditions, preferring fertile, well-drained ground enriched with organic matter.
For best results, direct sow in the garden when soil temperatures are between 55–75°F. Sow seeds 1/4–1/2" deep, and thin seedlings to allow 15–18" of space for mature growth. Plants reach 16–18" tall at maturity, producing a generous yield over the season. This heirloom is a great choice for edible landscaping as well as container gardens.

Soil and Water: Kale will perform much better in fertile soil with good drainage, organic matter, and a pH range of 5.5-6.5. It needs regular, even watering to avoid bitterness.
Planting and Growing: Kale grows well in both heat and cold and may survive winter. Start indoors 6 weeks before the last frost or seed directly as soon as the soil can be worked. Plant in mid-July for fall harvests.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest young leaves for salads. Older leaves are best steamed or cooked. Flavor improves after a light frost.

Planted the Curly Roja Kale, September, zone 9b, directly into the containers. They germinated in about 4-5 days! Little shoots! I have never had anything from Peaceful Valley not germinate. I will review again when harvest comes around. If it's anything like my spring harvest of Peacefully Valley vegetables, I know I won't be disappointed!
This is my 1st time using this particular variety but I have been very successful with peaceful Valley products especially kale. Last year I had kale in every pot around my house and randomly growing amongst flowers on my deck. Kale is so easy to grow especially in areas that tend to be cool weather longer. Peaceful Valley has always provided a strong crop when it comes to their greens and kale is one of them that always produces the most for me.
