Soil and Water: Rich soil with lots of organic matter, and heavy, even water.
Planting and Growing: Sow indoors about 3 weeks before your last frost. Harden plants prior to transplanting, and set out after danger of frost has passed. Direct sow 6-8 seeds in hills 6-8' apart. Thin to 2-3 seeds. Or plant in rows 6-8' apart, spacing plants 12-18" apart in the row.
Harvesting and Storage: Ripens from cream to light gold. Harvest when the squash's rind is hard enough that you can't dent it with your fingernail and before first frost. Cut fruits from vines, leaving 2" of stem and handle carefully.
