Organic Trero Kohlrabi Seeds
Dependable Growth. Gourmet Quality.
Smooth, uniform, and remarkably tender, Trero Kohlrabi offers gardeners an exceptional cool-season crop that performs beautifully in both spring and fall plantings. This reliable hybrid stands out for its ability to mature early while maintaining a refined sweetness and crisp texture, even as bulbs grow to generous market size. Gardeners who appreciate dependable germination and steady growth will find Trero especially rewarding—its compact plants develop clean, pale-green bulbs that rise neatly above the soil surface, making them easy to monitor, harvest, and prepare.
What truly sets Trero apart is its consistency. Each plant produces a nearly identical bulb, smooth-skinned and globe-shaped, with a delicate, juicy interior that resists becoming tough or fibrous. Even in fluctuating cool-season conditions, Trero maintains its tenderness and mild flavor, giving growers confidence when succession planting for continuous harvests. The bulbs slice beautifully for fresh eating, adding a refreshing crunch to salads and slaws, but they also shine when roasted, sautéed, spiralized, or added to soups. This versatility makes Trero a favorite among home cooks and market customers alike—a vegetable that bridges the gap between familiar and gourmet with ease.
Gardeners appreciate its sturdy tops and compact footprint, which allow for efficient bed planning in tight garden spaces or high-density plantings. With full sun, fertile soil, and consistent moisture, Trero produces vigorous top growth that supports rapid bulb development. Its leaves remain tender and edible, providing greens that can be cooked like kale or collards—an added benefit for growers seeking to maximize yield from every plant. Whether you're cultivating a small backyard patch or managing multiple successions for CSA shares, Trero brings reliability, beauty, and excellent flavor to every harvest cycle.

Did You Know?
Kohlrabi looks like a root vegetable, but the bulb is actually a swollen stem that develops above the soil line. Its name comes from the German words kohl (cabbage) and rübe (turnip), a nod to its sweet cabbage-like flavor and turnip-like crunch. Both the bulb and the leaves are edible, providing two distinct harvests from each plant. The bulbs offer crisp, juicy texture for raw or cooked dishes, while the young leaves can be sautéed, steamed, or added to soups just like collard greens or kale.

Planting & Care
Soil & Water
Trero kohlrabi thrives in rich, fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. For the sweetest, most tender bulbs, maintain even moisture from germination through harvest. Inconsistent watering can stress plants and lead to tougher texture or slowed growth. Prepare beds by incorporating compost or aged manure before planting, and loosen the soil to encourage strong root development and steady stem enlargement.
Mulching around plants helps conserve soil moisture, suppress weeds, and moderate soil temperature during warmer periods. Aim for full sun exposure to promote rapid, uniform bulb formation. Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely or remain soggy for long periods—both extremes can reduce quality and yield.
Planting & Growing
Direct sow Trero as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring, or again in late summer for fall harvests. Sow seeds in rows and thin to the recommended spacing once seedlings are established. Closer spacing will produce smaller, tender bulbs ideal for bunching, while wider spacing allows bulbs to reach full size. Consistent, cool temperatures support the best growth and flavor, making kohlrabi a natural fit for shoulder-season production.
Provide full sun and protect young plants from heavy weed competition early on. Quick, steady growth is key to achieving Trero's signature mild flavor and crisp texture. For ongoing harvests, consider sowing small blocks or rows every couple of weeks within your cool-season window to enjoy a continuous supply.
Harvesting & Storage
Harvest Trero when bulbs reach approximately 2.5–3" in diameter for peak tenderness and flavor. Use a sharp knife or pruners to cut the stem just above the soil line. While Trero holds better than many varieties, bulbs left too long may gradually lose some sweetness, so regular harvests are recommended. Young leaves can be harvested as needed for cooking greens, adding extra value to each planting.
For storage, trim off most of the leaves, leaving a short portion of stem. Store bulbs unwashed in a perforated bag or container in the refrigerator, where they can keep for several weeks. When you're ready to use them, simply peel the outer skin if desired and enjoy the crisp, juicy flesh raw or cooked. With proper care in the garden and careful handling after harvest, Trero delivers excellent eating quality long after it leaves the field.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
