Description
Peaceful Valley Dryland Grass Hay Mix brings together five cool-season grasses and cereal grains for hay production where irrigation is limited. Forerunner Triticale and Blando Brome contribute dependable cool-season growth, while Intermediate Ryegrass and Tetraploid Annual Ryegrass establish quickly. Dryland Orchardgrass adds a persistent perennial component suited to lower-moisture forage systems.
The mixture's range of growth habits helps occupy the field, protect soil from erosion, and produce forage across changing seasonal conditions. Quick-growing ryegrasses support early stand development, while orchardgrass and brome contribute fibrous roots and longer-term coverage. Dryland performance still depends on timely rainfall, soil moisture storage, fertility, planting date, and harvest management; the mix cannot compensate for prolonged drought without adequate establishment moisture.
Plant into a prepared, weed-controlled field during the appropriate cool-season window. Protect seedlings from close grazing or cutting until they are well rooted. For hay, choose harvest timing to balance yield and forage maturity, cure the crop thoroughly, and test the finished forage before developing livestock rations. Every component is a grass or cereal, so Rhizobium inoculant and Nitrocoating are unnecessary.
- Growth Habit: Cool-season grass and cereal hay mixture for dryland conditions
- Contains: Forerunner Triticale, Intermediate Ryegrass, Tetraploid Annual Ryegrass, Blando Brome, and Dryland Orchardgrass
- Application Rate: 40–50 lb per acre
- Inoculant: Not required. This mix contains no legumes and does not rely on Rhizobium bacteria for nitrogen fixation.
- Uses: Dryland hay production, forage, erosion control, soil coverage, and weed competition
- Establishment: Plant when seasonal moisture can support germination and early root development
- Harvest Management: Balance yield with maturity, cure hay thoroughly, and test forage for livestock ration planning
- Ordering: Custom blend; minimum order quantity is 50 pounds
- Estimated Mature Height: 30–60 inches when allowed to reach flowering or seed-head maturity. Mowing, grazing, or harvest typically keeps the stand shorter.
