Description

Peaceful Valley Warm Season Biomass Mix is a vigorous multi-species cover crop blend developed to produce abundant seasonal growth and plant material during the warmest months of the year. It combines sorghum sudangrass, blackeye peas, proso millet, sunn hemp, soybeans, mung beans, and safflower, bringing together grasses, legumes, and flowering broadleaf species with complementary growth habits. This diversity helps keep soil covered, maintain living roots, and generate substantial biomass that can later be mowed or incorporated as part of a long-term soil-building program.

Best planted in late spring or early summer after the danger of frost has passed and soils have warmed, this mix performs best in full sun and a prepared, well-drained seedbed. Sorghum sudangrass and proso millet contribute fast, upright growth, while the legumes add additional plant diversity and can form beneficial relationships with nitrogen-fixing bacteria when properly inoculated. Sunn hemp and safflower further broaden the mix with deep-rooted and flowering growth. For effective nodulation across the different legumes, treat the soybean component with Soybean Inoculant (treats 300 lb) and the cowpea, blackeye pea, mung bean, and sunn hemp components present in the blend with Cowpea, Peanut & Lespedeza Inoculant (treats 100 lb). Plant promptly after treating the seed.

Use Peaceful Valley Warm Season Biomass Mix in vegetable gardens, orchards, vineyards, open fields, and other areas where producing plant material and keeping the soil actively growing are priorities. Mow or incorporate the stand while growth is still tender and before mature seed develops. For larger biomass production, allow the planting to establish fully before termination, while avoiding overly mature, woody growth that may decompose more slowly.
