Medium-coarse horticultural perlite is a heat-expanded volcanic material used to add pore space, drainage, and aeration to soil and growing media. The lightweight granules can be blended into seed-starting mixes, propagation media, containers, raised beds, or hydroponic systems.

Blend at the rate appropriate for the crop and application. Handle and store according to the package directions, and minimize airborne dust while pouring or mixing.

Changing a mix can alter pore space and water-holding capacity. Blend a trial batch first, then adjust irrigation to the crop, container, and local conditions.
