Tom Thumb Popcorn Corn Seeds (Organic)

Tom Thumb Popcorn Corn Seeds (Organic)

Compact plants, delicious popcorn.

Tom Thumb Popcorn Corn is a charming heirloom variety that produces small, flavorful kernels on compact plants, making it ideal for gardens with limited space. Growing to a manageable height of just 3-4 feet, these dwarf plants are perfect for container gardening or small plots. Each plant produces multiple ears, typically 3-4 inches long, packed with tender kernels that pop into light, crisp, and delicious popcorn. Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, Tom Thumb matures in just 85-90 days, offering a quick and rewarding harvest. Its petite size and adaptability make it a great choice for family gardens, especially for introducing children to gardening. The kernels store well after harvest, ensuring fresh, home-popped popcorn year-round. Whether you’re growing for a fun snack or as a unique garden feature, Tom Thumb Popcorn Corn is a delightful and productive addition to any garden.

Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Corn is a heavy feeder requiring high amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK). Its weak and shallow root system likes loose soil with a high compost content.

Planting & Growing: Sow seeds directly outdoors 1 week after the last frost. You can start earlier by using black or green plastic mulches and floating row covers to obtain optimum conditions. Plant in blocks rather than rows to ensure good germination. To prevent cross-pollination, plant different varieties at least 500'.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest the ears when husks have dried and kernels are plump, well-colored, and shiny. Husk and dry cobs in a cool, well-ventilated space. After one month, test-pop a few kernels every few days until successful. Remove kernels from cobs and store in dark containers.
