Whether planted in garden beds, containers, or used as cut flowers, these ranunculus bulbs are an excellent choice for anyone looking to add lasting beauty to their spring landscape.

Key Characteristics and Benefits of Growing Ranunculus Tecolote Bulbs

  • High Yield: Each bulb can produce 8–12 blossoms per season.
  • Excellent Cut Flowers: Long stems and extended vase life make them ideal for arrangements.
  • Compact Growth: Perfect for small-space gardens and patio containers.
  • Low Maintenance: Easy to grow and care for with minimal input.

Climate and Soil Requirements

Ranunculus tecolote prefers mild climates and grows best in USDA zones 7–10. In cooler regions, bulbs can be planted in containers and overwintered indoors. For optimal growth, plant your ranunculus bulbs in sandy or loamy soil with excellent drainage. Avoid heavy clay soils or overly wet spots.

Planting Time and Technique

Soak bulbs (also called corms) in room-temperature water for 3–4 hours before planting to initiate growth. Plant the bulbs claw-side down at a depth of 2–3 inches and space them 3–4 inches apart. Choose a location that receives full sun for at least 6 hours per day. In zone 7, fall planting is recommended; in colder zones, wait until late winter or very early spring.

Watering and Maintenance

Water after planting and keep the soil lightly moist during active growth. Do not allow bulbs to sit in soggy soil. Once foliage appears, consistent watering will encourage vigorous blooming. After flowering, allow foliage to yellow and die back naturally so the bulb can store energy for the next season.

Why Choose a Ranunculus Mix?

This colorful Ranunculus Bulb Mix delivers a painter’s palette of hues—no two gardens will look alike! A mix like this provides unmatched visual interest and offers the flexibility to pair with other early spring bloomers such as tulips, anemones, and daffodils. The diversity of color and flower form in a single planting makes it easy to design breathtaking beds and bouquets alike.

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Didn't bloom for me

These didn't bloom for me. I planted in the fall and they started sprouting in the late fall. I don't know if that's why they didn't bloom. Maybe they will reset themselves for this spring.

Ranunculus

I love bulbs! They're an easy and fast way to get lost of color in the spring. Ranunculus remind me of the crepe paper flowers I made in elementary school. Unfortunately, the deer love the ranunculus as much as I do and I have to keep them sprayed with a deer repellent. I use Liquid Fence (PBR940) and it works great!
