Description

Organic Western Rose seed garlic comes from the western U.S. Silverskin tradition and is described as a larger relative of the familiar Silver Rose type. Silverskins became important garden and commercial softnecks because their flexible stems braid well and properly cured bulbs can keep later than many other garlic groups. Western Rose adds attractive rose-toned cloves and medium flavor.

Western Rose is the garlic to plant when you want the harvest season—and the pantry season—to last a little longer. This late Silverskin follows many earlier varieties, spreading out the work at digging time. Rose-toned clove skins dress up the otherwise pale bulbs, while flexible stems invite braiding. Once properly cured, its strong keeping ability makes it a smart counterpoint to flavor-forward hardnecks that should be eaten sooner.

The medium, classic garlic flavor works well in sauces, soups, roasted vegetables, marinades, pickles, and everyday sautés. Raw cloves add a sharper bite to pesto or dressing, while roasting develops sweetness and a smoother finish. Silverskins often contain a range of clove sizes: choose larger cloves for slicing or roasting and use the smaller inner cloves when building stocks, braises, or spice pastes.

When growing Western Rose, reserve a sunny row that can stay in place into the later part of the garlic harvest. Plant in fall in freely draining soil, keep spring growth supplied with even moisture, and allow the Silverskin bulbs time to finish. As the tops decline in mid- to late summer, taper watering and check the wrappers. Cure the crop thoroughly out of direct sun, leaving the stems untrimmed for braiding and long-term storage.

Limited Seed Garlic Guarantee (When Planted by November 15th)

Claim Deadline is 45 Days from Purchase or Delivery. (Claims placed after December 31st will be denied.)

What We Guarantee
Our only guarantee is that the seed garlic we sell will germinate, provided you follow the steps listed in our Garlic Planting & Growing Guide. This guarantee is only available to customers who purchase their seed garlic directly from us.

What We Cannot Guarantee
We cannot guarantee that your garlic will remain alive & healthy, or sizes up properly, as there are too many variables beyond our control to be able to do so (i.e. soil preparation, fertilization, weed and pest control, temperature control, irrigation, etc).

How to Request a Credit
If you encounter a significant lack of germination of your garlic (over 50%), please contact us within 45 days of delivery. If we determine that your garlic had a significant lack of germination, we will issue you a credit (not a refund) for the purchase price of your garlic (excluding shipping).* This 45-day time frame is meant to allow you up to 2 weeks to plant your garlic, and up to 4 weeks to check for signs of growth.
