Creeping Red Fescue Seed (lb)
Cool-Season Grass Seed
Festuca rubra is a cool-season perennial grass valued for shade tolerance, fine texture, and sod-forming growth. Unlike bunch-forming fescues, creeping red fescue spreads gradually by short underground rhizomes, helping stabilize soil and fill gaps in lawns, erosion-control plantings, and low-maintenance grass mixtures.
Plant in early spring or early fall when temperatures are cool and moisture is dependable. Prepare a firm, weed-free seedbed and cover seed lightly. Establishment is slower than that of many annual cover crops, so consistent moisture and early weed management are important. In hot climates, use it primarily in shaded or cooler exposures. It combines well with Kentucky bluegrass where a dense, durable cool-season turf is desired.
