Eclair Strawberry Plants by the Box (1500)

Eclair Strawberry Plants by the Box (1500)

Favorite Among Connoisseurs

A botanical masterpiece, has captured the attention of horticultural enthusiasts and gastronomes alike. This remarkable strawberry cultivar is characterized by its sensory appeal, featuring an enticing fragrance and a flavor profile that harmoniously melds sweetness with subtle undertones reminiscent of raspberry and citrus notes. 'Éclair' stands as a favorite among connoisseurs of the strawberry world.

Horticulturally, 'Éclair' is classified as a "short day" or "Junebearing" variety, notable for its early-season productivity. The berries, distinctively shaped like wedges, boast a generous size and are celebrated for their exceptional sweetness and medium-firm texture. This variety's notable attribute is its robust resistance to common garden soil diseases, ensuring vigorous plant development.

Originating from a lineage that encompasses both "Junebearing" and "everbearing" genetic traits, 'Éclair' extends the strawberry season, delivering fresh fruit well into the growing season, surpassing many traditional "Junebearing" varieties.

Beyond its culinary appeal, 'Éclair' Strawberries offer health benefits, owing to their rich content of ellagic acid, known for its potential in reducing the risk of cancer and heart disease. These fruits are also a nutritional powerhouse, being fiber-rich and low in calories, with a vitamin C content surpassing that of citrus fruits.

Cultivating 'Éclair' Strawberries requires early spring planting, diligent soil preparation, and thoughtful care, including the removal of runners and early flowers to encourage robust root development. In colder climates, winter protection with straw or leaves is recommended. After two years, it is advisable to replace the strawberry bed to maintain both quality and yield.

The 'Éclair' Strawberry, with its unique attributes and culinary potential, appeals to gardeners and epicureans seeking a superior strawberry variety with rich flavors and healthful properties.

Strawberries are extremely adaptable and are grown in every state in the U.S. Plants generally grow 6-8" tall and 12" across, are shallow-rooted, and benefit from mulch such as straw, pine needles, or plastic. Prefer a soil rich in all the basic nutrients with a pH of 6 to 6.5. Susceptible to root rot and must be planted in well-drained soil, with crown set at soil level. Yield under the best of conditions is about one basket per plant per season.

June Bearers generally produce a single large crop in spring to early summer (as early as March in warmer regions) and are prolific producers for 3 to 4 weeks. Pick the blossoms off June bearers the first year to boost production the second year.

Everbearers are not as prolific as June bearers but are especially suitable for growers who wish to harvest a constant supply of berries throughout the summer. Plant some of both to have a large harvest to preserve, and plenty to eat all summer!
