Description
Description
Organic Peaceful Valley Budget Soil Builder Mix provides a cost-conscious route to certified-organic cool-season coverage, nitrogen fixation, and green manure. The mixture combines organic legumes with organic cereal grains, creating a stand that establishes at several levels rather than relying on one species to perform every job.
Field peas, vetch, and Bell Beans contribute nitrogen-rich growth and larger roots. White oats and barley add rapid early coverage, fibrous roots, and carbon-rich residue that balances the softer legume material. Together, the components compete with weeds, protect soil through wet weather, and produce a varied supply of organic matter. The exact combination may change with seed availability, so customers should use the ingredient statement for the current lot when planning rotations or livestock use.
Seed in September or October in most regions. Coastal locations and other cool-summer climates may also support spring planting. This is a raw-seed blend, so inoculate before planting to help the legumes form effective nodules. For green manure, mow or incorporate before mature seed develops and while the stems remain manageable. If the stand is allowed to become tall and coarse, provide additional time for the cereal residue to begin decomposing before the next crop is planted.
- Season: Organic cool-season annual legume and cereal mixture
- Contains: Organic Field Peas, Organic Vetch, Organic White Oats, Organic Barley, and Organic Bell Beans, depending on availability
- Application Rate: 3–5 lb per 1,000 sq ft or 70–120 lb per acre

Use Pea Vetch Lentil Inoculant (treats 100 lb), Garden Combination Mix Inoculant (treats 8 lb), or Garden Combination Mix Inoculant (treats 50 lb). Choose the package size that matches the amount of seed being planted, and plant promptly after treating the seed.

Fix me nitrogen, mulch me soil, keep me microbiome alive
Have grown this mix for about 5 years. Near 18" growth in 6 weeks under cool and moist conditions and tasty pea shoots a bonus.
This is my preferred cold season ground cover-green manure seed - providing so much precious fertility and organic matter not just outside in the field, but inside my hoop houses. I have used it for years - Thank you PVFS for keeping it in stock.
Sprouts and grows well 365 days a year in coastal southern California (10 miles inland, zone 23). Never used the premium SBM and don't need to. This stuff is great. We also use buckwheat in the summer but this is our primary cover crop. It has a nice mix of legumes and grains. The vetch is pretty if we let it bloom and the mix is a consistent performer. Never had any germination issues due to seed quality.
