Mustard Seed (lb)
Loosens Compacted Soils
Brassica spp Cool Season cover crop
Common Mustard (Brassica spp.) is a fast-growing cool-season cover crop ideal for loosening compacted or heavy soils. With a deep taproot system, it enhances water infiltration and breaks up hardpan layers. Reaching up to 4 feet tall, it germinates in 5–10 days and produces abundant biomass while attracting beneficial insects. Often used to improve soil tilth and organic matter levels, mustard also supports biological activity in the root zone. No inoculant is needed. Apply at 12–15 lb/acre or 0.5 lb/1,000 sq ft. Excellent for rotation in vegetable systems or as a soil builder in fall-planted cover crop blends.

This is my go to spring cover crop, it does better than any other similar planting, such as rapeseed. Fast growing, lost of biomass, and bee absolutely go crazy over it. A large patch has the sweetest honey-like odor when in flower that you will smell all through the garden.
Zone 5B. Planted in 2 different areas in the spring, my herb garden and an area where I have grown lettuce prior. Research tells me this is a spring crop for my area. Grew to 2 inches then sent up a 3 inch flower stock. Planted in the fall mixed with other cover crops and see no evidence of it because the other crops outgrew it.
I used the Mustard Seed as a winter cover crop here in Western North Carolina.....clay soil...drought year...Western full sun. It grew beautifully and kept the sloping hill from eroding.
Very satisfied!
