Description

Organic Aroma Basil is a certified organic, Genovese-type basil start selected for glossy dark-green leaves, classic culinary fragrance, and a dense upright habit. The broad leaves suit pesto, tomato dishes, salads, sauces, and fresh finishing. Aroma is also reported to have intermediate resistance to Fusarium wilt, a useful breeding trait that reduces risk but does not replace crop rotation, sanitation, or plant monitoring.

Basil is a tender annual grown during warm weather in USDA Zones 4–10. It is sensitive to frost and cold soil, so local temperature—not winter chill hours—determines planting time. Give it full sun, or brief afternoon protection in the hottest inland gardens. No pollinizer partner is necessary. Check seasonal context with the USDA Growing Zone lookup.

Transplant after nights have warmed and the bed is no longer cold and saturated. Keep the root ball at its existing depth, water it in, and maintain even moisture during establishment without leaving the soil waterlogged. In a container, use a freely draining mix and check moisture more frequently during hot or windy periods. Pinch the growing tips above a leaf pair to encourage branching and delay flowering when leaf production is the priority.

Harvest the upper stems regularly, leaving lower leaves to support regrowth. Once flower spikes develop, the blooms are edible and attractive in an herb garden, but flowering can change leaf texture and flavor. Remove damaged foliage and watch for chewing insects, aphids, downy mildew, or wilt symptoms; resistance to one disease is not broad protection. Follow the small-plant transplant guide for establishment and the annual and perennial herb harvest guide for cutting and preservation. This copy makes culinary and growing claims only.

Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Plant in full sun in well-draining soil. Basil does not require fertile soil, however it performs best when organic matter is added. Provide even water throughout development.

Planting & Growing: Plant starts directly when the soil reaches 50F. Basil will not perform below 50°F; pot indoors during winter for a year-round supply.

Harvesting & Storage: Regular harvesting will keep production high. Use leaves fresh or frozen. Remove flower stalks to extend the harvest. Be sure to make the last harvest before the first frost.

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
