Description

Peaceful Valley High Carbon Mix is a custom cool-season cover-crop blend built around high-biomass cereal grains and complementary legumes. Oats, triticale, and beardless wheat contribute fibrous roots and carbon-rich residue, while faba beans and Biomaster peas add taproot growth, plant diversity, and biological nitrogen fixation.

Earlier copy incorrectly identified beardless wheat as a legume. Oats, triticale, and wheat are grasses and do not fix nitrogen; the faba beans and peas are the nitrogen-fixing components. The blend can produce substantial above- and below-ground biomass, but long-term changes in soil organic carbon depend on climate, soil type, termination, tillage, residue management, and subsequent rotations.

Sow in fall for cool-season growth or in early spring where summers arrive late. Drill for uniform depth or broadcast onto a prepared seedbed and incorporate lightly. Terminate while grains are still manageable and before mature seed develops if easy incorporation and prevention of volunteers are priorities.

  • Application rate: 100–130 lb per acre
  • Inoculant: Raw faba bean and pea seed benefits from Pea, Vetch & Lentil Inoculant (treats 100 lb) or Garden Combination Mix Inoculant (treats 50 lb). Treat immediately before planting.
  • Contains: Oats, faba beans, triticale, Biomaster peas, and beardless wheat
  • Uses: Biomass production, soil cover, organic-matter inputs, nitrogen fixation, and diversified rotations
  • Ordering: Custom blend; minimum order quantity is 50 pounds.
  • Estimated Mature Height: 36–60 inches when allowed to reach flowering or seed-head maturity. Mowing, grazing, or harvest typically keeps the stand shorter.
