Peaceful Valley Legume Oat Mix #1 is built for orchard and vineyard floors where growers want cool-season coverage, nitrogen fixation, and a substantial green-manure crop from one planting. Its combination of field peas, vetches, and oats creates several complementary growth habits: the peas and vetches supply nitrogen-rich legume biomass, while Cayuse oats add upright structure, fibrous roots, and dependable soil protection.

The cereal component helps support the climbing legumes and improves early competition against weeds. Below ground, the mixture develops both fine grass roots and deeper legume roots, helping hold medium to heavy soils through wet weather. This varied canopy can also reduce the amount of bare ground between orchard or vineyard rows while producing material that can later be mowed or incorporated.

Plant during the cool season in a prepared seedbed with adequate establishment moisture. This is a raw-seed mixture, so treat it with the appropriate pea-vetch inoculant immediately before planting. Spring growth can become tall and vine-heavy; monitor the stand so it does not climb into young trees, vines, sprinklers, or other equipment. For green manure, terminate before mature seed develops and while the residue remains practical to mow or incorporate. Earlier termination decomposes more quickly, while later termination produces more total biomass.
