Collection: Grow better soil from the ground up

Year-round cover crop mixes combine grasses, legumes, and other species selected for longer-lived or recurring soil cover. They can be useful in orchards, vineyards, pathways, farm lanes, perennial planting areas, and other locations where growers want a managed stand rather than a short cover crop between annual vegetables.

When to Use a Year-Round Mix

Choose this type of blend when the goal is persistent cover, reseeding, seasonal regrowth, traffic tolerance, erosion protection, forage, beneficial-insect habitat, or managed vegetation around perennial crops. “Year round” describes the intended long-term role of the planting; it does not mean every mix can be sown successfully in every month or climate.

Compare Mixes Before Planting

  • Climate: Check winter hardiness, summer heat tolerance, rainfall, and irrigation requirements.
  • Growth habit: Compare mature height, mowing tolerance, dormancy, reseeding, and persistence.
  • Site use: Select for orchard or vineyard floors, paths, pasture, erosion control, pollinator support, or other specialized areas.
  • Management: Plan mowing, grazing, irrigation, reseeding, or termination before establishment.

Legumes and Inoculants

Some blends contain clovers or other legumes. Check whether the selected product is raw or Nitrocoated and follow its inoculant guidance. Raw legume seed may require a compatible seed inoculant for effective nodulation.
