Diagnose before choosing a spray

A dormant spray is not automatically needed on every tree. Identify the tree, the target pest or disease, its life stage, and whether dormant timing is appropriate. Orchard sanitation, pruning of affected material where appropriate, and monitoring may also be part of an integrated plan.

The product label controls

Use only a product labeled for the crop and target problem. Follow the label for dilution, timing, temperature, application interval, protective equipment, re-entry, cleanup, storage, and disposal. Do not substitute a calendar date for the label’s growth-stage and weather restrictions.

Protect people, wildlife, and pollinators

• Do not spray in wind or when drift is likely.
• Keep people and animals out of the treatment area as the label directs.
• Avoid spraying open blooms or foraging pollinators unless the label explicitly permits the use and all precautions are met.
• Prevent runoff into drains, waterways, and non-target areas.

Prepare equipment

Inspect the sprayer, confirm calibration, and test with water where appropriate. Apply only enough spray to meet label coverage directions without unnecessary runoff. Clean equipment exactly as directed after use.
