Planting & Care
Planting & Care
Soil and Water: Fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0–6.8 is best.
Planting and Growing: Sow indoors about 3 weeks before your last frost. Plants don't like their roots disturbed so you may want to start them in biodegradable pots or soil blocks. Harden plants prior to transplanting, set out after danger of frost has passed. Can direct sow when soil is 70°–85°F.
Harvesting and Storage: Harvest when the squash's rind is hard enough that you can't dent it with your fingernail and before first frost. Cut fruits from vines, leaving 2" of stem and handle carefully. Sun cure for 5–7 days or indoors by keeping squash at 80–85°F with good air flow.
