Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Radishes prefer well-drained soil with plenty of added organic matter. They have low nutrient requirements; especially avoid excess nitrogen to promote good root development. Preferred soil pH is 6.0-7.0.

Planting & Growing: Cool weather is needed for best development. Sow seed directly in late summer and fall rather than spring or else these radishes will bolt rather than form nice round roots.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest is best when 3-4" in diameter. Will keep all winter when stored in moist sand.

Did great!

Germination rate was great, was able to keep the plants in the ground under cover through the winter and continue to harvest in the early spring. I found the leaves edible, too, when steamed. Very happy and will purchase again. Many of the leaves looked a lot more edible than in the photo! I photographed this one in January because it was so large!

Extra nutritious!

I read recently that black radishes have more nutrients than the red ones so I'm excited to try these. I have large sprouts already and planted 5-7 days ago. Great germination!
